Reading List
I think I would go to the Marine Parade library after work today.
Johann (pronounced YO-hahn) was reading Fingerprints of the gods by Graham Hancock in the pantry. I was making Earl Grey after lunch. We got into this conversation about books we read and I suddenly miss reading literature- instead of just newspapers and magazines.
On my reading list now is only Moving On and Moving Up – Rev Naomi Dowdy. It’s a really thin book and Aileen is wondering why I am taking so long. You see, at Chapter 6, Pastor Naomi says if you need to be sure of your convictions, go back to Chapter 1. And so I did. I am now back at Chapter 6 with a few more to go. I am not any surer about my convictions; just clearer about what she is saying.
On my wish-reading list:
1. Mistress of Spice by Chitra Banerjee. The reviews for the movie are awful. But I’ve wanted to read this book for sometime. Will give it a shot since I would be borrowing from the library (if I make it to the library today).
2. Footsteps- Book 3 of The Buru Quartet by the late Pramoedya Ananta Toer. Danny actually met this legendary Indonesian hero when he was there. How enviable. I have This Earth of Mankind (Book 1) and Child of All Nations (Book 2), so am quite tempted to buy the last two books. The Buru Quartet so named because Toer wrote them while imprisoned in Buru Island. The first two books were actually stories produced in narration because he was not allowed writing materials. Later on, he was placed under house arrest until his death. For having a mind and sharing his thoughts through literature.
