Singapore voted

Singapore had its General Elections last weekend. It was a non event in my constituency even though we didn't have a walkover. No banners (save one by the bus stop outside my apartment), no roving blasts. No atmosphere. But it first time in 18 years that the PAP was not handed power on nomination day.

They have a funny GRC system here, whereby the parties field a team of 6/5/4 candidates and they all fall under ONE seat. If you know anything about statistics you can tell there is compromise in democracy there. The opposition only won two of the SMCs (one candidate per seat for these smaller constituencies).

Colleague: So what do you think of Singapore politics and elections huh?
Nicole: Quite amusing
Colleague: It's a joke!
Nicole: That's why it is amusing :)

But the PAP garnered 66.6% of popular vote, down from somewhere higher. I think Singaporeans should be very proud of themselves.
